About

Hello and welcome! My name is Kristin Gibson and I am a full time artist who loves to paint and cook!  I work in  my Carolina Beach home, near Wilmington, NC. A prolific painter, and mother of two, I create spirited “alla prima” paintings and fabrics stirred from elements of daily life. Color and pattern inspire the lyrical qualities of my still lifes, seascapes and silk scarves. Shaped by the ebb and flow of a lifetime by the sea, and the salt air and water integral to my process, I call my backyard work space “Saltwater Studio”. (Complete with a pet rabbit!)

I am  represented by fine art galleries and invite you to visit: Spectrum Art & Jewelry in Wilmington, NC; City Art Gallery in Greenville, NC; Tyler White Gallery and Green Hill Center for NC Art in Greensboro, NC; Artshak in Southport, NC; Woods Gallery on Bald Head Island; I. Pinckney Simons Gallery in Beaufort, SC. Newly represented in Charlotte, NC by Cotswold MarketPlace.

Artist Statement: Finding perpetual inspiration in the organic shapes and hues of fruits, flowers, vegetables and the sea, my works begin as drawings with my paintbrush. With bold immediacy and working entirely from life, lines in a layer of paint jump-start a fluent process of color into color, wet paint into wet paint. Favorite aspects of a painting emerge as spontaneous passages and expressive impasto brushwork that sings. These marks offering hints and glimpses into my process. Truth is, I paint the way I cook – not afraid to mix a little of this, with a little of that.  Thank you for your interest in my work! I hope you enjoy my musings about art. I invite you to visit the fine galleries that represent me.
